Problems with the Castlemartyr to Cork bus service

The Community Council have been in contact with Bus Éireann to complain about the inconsistent service offered to Castlemartyr. Ancedotal evidence suggests that buses do not always stop in the village; do not always take passengers on that want to travel to Midleton only; and sometimes take non-standard routes.

Management at Bus Éireann has asked us to compile a log of poor service on the Cork - Castlemartyr route in order to help them resolve the issues. If you have any bad experiences with the bus service, please send us an e-mail. We need dates, times and the nature of the problem with as much detail as possible.

Role of the Council

The Community Council takes the lead in many aspects of improving the physical and social environment of the Castlemartyr/Mogeely area. Some of the projects and successes led by the council include:

• Facilitating installation of security systems for the elderly
• Improving and increasing services for the disabled
• Welcoming new residents by highlighting local services and organisations
• Organising the Tidy Towns competition and the annual hanging basket demonstration
• Lobbying Cork County Council and local politicians for improved public service infrastructure, for example water, traffic lights, sewage treatment, condition of roads, etc.
• Undertaking projects to improve the physical appearance of our area in conjunction with our local FÁS group, by applying for grants under the Village & Urban Renewal Scheme with Cork County Council
• Highlighting issues of concern to local residents and referring them to the appropriate authority (e.g. the Gardaí, Cork County Council
