A cheque for €7,115 was presented to Margaret Walsh and her family by the Community Council in Cliffords's Bar on 26 July. The family were delighted with the contribution to their expenses for the long trip to China in October. Clifford's proved to be an excellent venue. Everyone enjoyed the night, organised by the Community Council.

The Family Fun Day at Castlemartyr school on 16 June was a resounding success (scroll down for photographs). Over €7,000 was raised to help Margaret Walsh fund her trip to the Special Olympics in China next October!
The day kicked off at three o'clock when Margaret arrived in style in a chauffer-driven limosuine (supplied by Johnny Greene) accompanied by her parents Margaret and Billy. She looked like a true star, having just enjoyed a pampering at the Beauty Within salon in Castlemartyr. Her first task was to cut the ribbon to officially get the proceedings underway.
Margaret was then introduced to the crowd by Tim Roynane, the MC for the day. She spoke passionately about her gratitude for the efforts made by the organising committee, and thanked everyone for attending.
DJ Dave O'Toole kicked off the entertainment as the crowd put their hands in their pockets to buy some of the huge range of foods, books, toys and bric-a-brac that was kindly donated. Luckily the rain stayed away, and the Child of Prague was thought to have played a key role in delaying the deluge.
We then enjoyed a wonderful singing performance from local girl Caoimhe Shanahan with some songs from the musical Annie. Then, local band Doctor Jam rocked Castlemartyr with some hard-hitting grunge rock. Their performance was energetic and this talented young band will no doubt hit the headlines in future years. Next up were Cliona and Natasha who demonstrated their considerable Irish dancing skills. Sinéad Sheppard, a member of the former pop band Six, then led her young dance troupe on stage. These youngsters charmed the audience with their display! More dancing followed with some talented teenagers impressing the crowd with their polished moves.
Special thanks to the organisers: Karen Dowley, Jayne Stack, Mary Griffin, Susan Wallace and Michael Shanahan. Also, the day would not have been a success without the help of all those who manned stalls and helped in other ways on the day, and to the efforts of the school staff, parents and children. Many thanks are due also to the businesses and individuals who donated cash, prizes and saleable items to help Margaret on her way to China.
Finally, well done Child of Prague!
