Being Well

'Being Well' is a general health and well-being programme, run by the HSE, that takes a positive, holistic and simple approach to health. Classes were held last year and were a great success. Another course is starting on 24 Jan 2008 and runs for six weeks. Enrolment is open to all (that have not attended classes before) andthe course is aimed in particular at the 50+ group. If you are interested, please phone Liz Maddox on 021-4623884 or 085-1341590. There is a limit of 20 in the class.

Crafts Classes for the 50+ group

Why not learn some new craft skills? Classes aimed at the over 50s are starting on Thursday afternoons in the primary school in Castlemartyr. Come along from 3:30 to 5:30 when Catherine Kenneally will pass on her expertise and get your creative juices flowing! Cost is a very reasonable €5 per class. The first class is on Thursday 20 September.

NRA public meeting

Engineers Eoin McCarthy and Shelia Fitzgerald of the NRA attended a public meeting (arranged by the Castlemartyr & Mogeely Community Council) on Wednesday 7 November about the upcoming road improvements in the village. The works will stretch from the Capella gates at the Cork end to the bridge, and will involve resurfacing, footpath improvements, provision of dedicated parking bays and undergrounding of the overhead cables. Also, a pedestrian crossing (with traffic lights) will be created near the post office. The project will start at the bridge end and work westwards in four sections. The works are slated for completion in March 2008.

She went for gold, and won!

Our very special Olympian Margaret Walsh won TWO gold medals in Shanghai last weekend in gymnastics. She rated best in the world in the Rhythmic Ball section, and also won the gold medal in the Rhytmic All Round category. There will be a special celebration in the Two Mile Inn on Saturday 13 October at 4pm to welcome her home. Why not congratulate her in person!

Event raised €7,115!

The summer fund raiser for Margaret Walsh''s trip to the Special Olympics in China raised the amazing total of €7,115. View some photos of the presentation in July of the cheque to Margaret and her family.

Open Garden in aid of Hospice Foundation

Support the Irish Hospice Foundation and get inspired ideas for your garden. Neil Williams, former proprietor of Carewswood Garden Centre, is hosting a coffee morning on Thursday 20 September between 10am and 2pm. His garden is well worth a visit, and this is a great opportunity to see the fruits of his expertise. Neil's house and garden is at Baneshane, Midleton (when travelling out of Midleton towards Cork, turn left at the roundabout just beyond Abernethy's garage near the Castlelands development... take the next right, and the house is on the right). All donations go to support the excellent work of the foundation.

Flower talk & display

Ted Murphy gave a talk on flowers and displayed some of his produce on 30 May in an event organised by the Community Council.
