Castlemartyr national school came first in the area competition for school gardens in a competition organized by 4Home. The school now represents the locality in a national competition (and also wins a prize of €500!. Congratulations to the pupils and teachers, and all involved! Ted Murphy returned to Castlemartyr on 15 May to give another excellent demonstration on hanging baskets and container displays. Also, some of the Tidy Towns 2007 awards were presented. Read about it and see some photos.
The East Cork Media Centre (ECMC) group is a community-focused organization that is planning to create a media centre based in East Cork. Media would include a radio station, TV & video production, New Media (animation, online art), photography, and any other forms that are wanted and needed in the community.Among the aims are to provide training, run outreach programs, provide local news & information, to offer an outlet for community groups to promote their activities, and to work with school groups. The enterprise is at start-up phase and is applying for fundraising and grants. Anyone who wishes to be involved or would like to find out more is welcome to attend meetings at ECAD Midleton at 7:30pm on the second Monday of each month. The founders are Rachel Laurie (rlaurie@eastcorkmedia.com) and Lorraine Stewart (lstewart@eastcorkmedia.com).
Castlemartyr & Mogeely Community Council held its AGM at 8:30pm on Tuesday 20 November in the primary school.

The Community Council recently commissioned a report on planning and infrastructure in Castlemartyr.
The report, which is available in full to download from the link below, contains details on the planning context of the area; a review of the infrastructure; an examination of the resedential and community facilities in the village; information on planning; an assessment of development contributions to the area; and a list of conclusions and recommendations for improving the village and its environs.
